The end seemed to be a bit of a test in patients and virtue and finding the people that will come through for you in a pinch.

More later to highlight the good and guffaw at the bad….

good night, she said, at 4pm.

It’s so simple

end of week three… this one went by quickly, maybe too quickly if you ask me. and you did, didn’t you? I’ve been grateful for visitors this week and a break from the normal hotel life.

Last weekend 4 of us headed out to Bohol, an island east of Cebu for some time away. After picking up our visitors from the airport we headed to the seaport for a 2 hour ferry ride across the Camotes Sea. When we got to the island we hopped on a Jeepney to our hotel on the beach which was 30 minutes further down the road to peace.

Although we were only there for one full day we managed to see and do quite a bit. I think it’s safe to say that the highlight of the weekend was motorbiking through the chocolate hills, breaking downin the middle of a rice field and the Tarsier - which is a small monkey looking type guy that is no larger than your hand.

I probably could have spent a few more days or years there walking barefoot in the sand and spending quality time in a hammock with a good book….

This weekend we are going to Boracay, which is west of Cebu and an hours flight away. I’ll get off work at 7, back to the hotel at 8, pack and turn around for the airport. I’m excited. No rest for the wicked. okay, well maybe on the plane.

The plan so far is simple. Catamaran. Swim up bar.

Dash, you say…

time is not on my side…

I’ve been here two days, it feels like so much longer for so many reasons… I think the first is that typically on any given day at any given time I’m royally confused at what time it is or what day it is. I slept on the plane… rolled in around 9am, checked in and got my bags around 10:30, promptly hit the beach, slept about 6 hours then went to the casino which was only mildly amusing but a great time waster, came back to the room, stayed up as long as possible, slept an hour and a half, got up and went to breakfast then to the mall to get some food items, $1.50 gin, $8.00 cigarettes and snorkle gear… slept some more and finally endured my first graves shift at work. After work was more free random bizzare-o breakfast then off to snorkeling with Becky. Much to my dismay my snorkle mask LEAKS so I will need to either fix it, return it, or buy a new pair. Any of which I am fully prepared to do as it’s so rewarding to get off work and splash around with all the amazing tropical fish within arms reach.

Anyway.. .is that 3 days or 2? I have no fucking clue… none. All I know right now is that it’s shortly after noon and I’m hearing my bed call me. They say that this will pass after a couple of days, for now I’m trusting them… and hoping for the best.

The other reasons … are many.

The mother of all storms…

My little brother messaged me today to tell me that he is under mandatory evacuation because of hurricane Gustav. I guess he’s going to head to a friends house in Tennessee… I’m a little pissed that the Navy isn’t doing anything for them… they have pretty much told everyone it’s every man for himself. Lovely. two steps back for my faith in america….

most amusing line of the day…

and I’ll preface this by saying I’ve been traveling for 20+ hours…

Little guy walks into the room shortly after I get here to deliver one of the million things they deliver…. “Checking out today?” Uh, no… I’m not checking out until October…. awkward silence….

So I’ve been here about 4 or 5 hours… right after I got my bags to my room I changed into my swimmers and headed to the sea to go snorkeling…. it was fucking amazing. The water is so clear (although they say it’s murky today) and warm and there are hundreds of awesome fish everywhere! I found nemo! No joke!

Now it’s 2:30pm and I’ve finished my room service burger and pinacolada and am heading to bed…so I can get up at 9 and go to the casino (?) to stay up all night since we work graves here…. should be interesting.

5 more days…

My flight is booked, my hotel is booked and I’ve started packing for six weeks in Cebu, Philippines. So I guess I’m ready in that aspect. emotionally I’m unsure and unprepared and anxious. worried about the workload and being away from my comfort zone for so long. worried about missing my friends who are my family. worried about trying to find a new place after being kicked out of my current place after 3 years. worried. stressed. getting by studying stones.

Two weeks and counting….

At this time in two weeks I’ll be boarding a plane to the Philippines… off for a 6 week adventures which will mostly consist of work…. I’m excited and anxious… I live a crazy life.

Hello Denver, Ohio.

Funny, I think I was actually in ohio… it was just as boring as Nebraska. Nebraska, it was interesting, I’m glad I left you. You almost killed me, but I persevered. Of the laundry list of things I didn’t like about Omaha, the one thing that did impress me out of the 100 airports I’ve been in is that the bathrooms left me with enough room to comfortably bring in my carry on luggage (I don’t check bags) and my “personal item”. That is my biggest complaint about airports… why are the stalls sofa king tiny when most people have a shitload of crap with them?

Anyway… next stop: Calgary Folk Festival. yay!

2 more hours!
